Choosing the Right Layette

Newborn clothing can be a bit confusing. It can be vastly different than the garb we wear as we get older. Choosing your layette carefully can be important, because these clothes will make like easier for a few weeks, but because you will only need them for a short time, you dont want to buy too many. This is also a great time to take advantage of hand-me-downs, since most layette items will be very gently used.

One important thing to consider before deciding what you need is how often you plan to do the laundry. Babies often need clean clothes two or three times a day, so unless you plan to wash a load of baby clothes every day, plan on a larger number of the most used items, like onesies and drawstring gowns. Another important thing to consider is the season, as you will obviously need more caps and heavier pajamas in winter than in summer. But dont be fooled, even summer babies will need a few hats, footed items, and socks. Babies often get chilled easier than we do.

Here are some popular items to get you started. Stores that sell baby clothing will also offer some good lists, but they tend to be on the high side in terms of numbers.

Drawstring Gowns- These are great, especially for midnight diaper changes, because they are so much easier to get into and out of. Stores recommend 3-8. I would go on the higher side with these, because of their convenience. T-shirt type onesies The kind with little folds at the neck are great, because its much easier to get them on and off. Some people will tell you to buy t-shirts, but I found these much more convenient, because the snaps between the legs make them stay put. In winter, you will put these under almost everything. They usually come in packs of three, so buy three or four packs. Bibs Youll need five or six small bibs for protecting babys clothes from milk spills. Youll go to bigger ones when you introduce solid foods. My advice is avoid the ones with ties, as theyre hard to get tied on a small baby. My favorites are bibs with Velcro fasteners at the back.

Hats Youll need warm, toboggan types for a winter baby, brimmed hats for sun protection for a spring or summer baby. Three hats should suffice.

Footed pajamas These are not a necessity, but are great for a winter baby, because they will stay relatively warm, even without a blanket. You can find them in all types of fabric, from very light cotton knit, to fleece for the coldest months. I prefer the zip ones to the ones that snap, because trying to get those snaps right in the middle of the night is a real chore!

Socks or booties Look for socks that dont kick off easily, but dont buy too many. Youll be surprised how quickly they outgrow socks. Two or three pair is fine for a summer baby, more for a winter baby.

This is a good list to get you started, and keep your baby clothed at home in those first days. Of course, once you start getting out of the house more, youll want more fashion type outfits. For convenience, look for outfits that are one piece, and snap between the legs. Pants with regular shirts or skirts and tops are very inconvenient until a child is walking, because the shirts are always pulled up. Building a wardrobe of one piece pants or shorts outfits will keep your baby warmer, as well as looking more put together.

Putting your babys first wardrobe together can be lots of fun. But, use some restraint on those first clothes, because before you know it, youll need another whole batch of new outfits!

Compare Satellite TV and Cable - Which is the Better Option?

Once in while you feel the need to upgrade your home entertainment for yourself, family or the Kids. Your choice of the best way to go in television home entertainment can be a painless and cheap experience or a hard and expensive affair. It is all pegged on the choice of type of TV you make and the implication it has on costs. This is due to the fact that most pay per view TV channels come with a monthly subscription fee. Depending on the choice between cable TV and satellite TV your costs will vary. Another factor that is usually overlooked is the service level of the pay TV type you get installed. Some will have unending interruptions, while others will be affected by the weather. Its good to know which the best quality TV channel to install is.

I once found myself with this choice to make between cable and satellite TV. While cable TV won on some areas, satellite TV also had its own advantages. So I decided to make a list of the most important factors that I wanted in any pay TV I was going to buy into.

Cost of TV installation and subscriptions

One of the first things on my list was the cost of installation and subscription for pay TV. I went to several websites for suppliers of cable and satellite TV and found that each of them offered equipment on a free lease. Installation costs for satellite TV were free while those of cable TV depend on the rooms to be connected to the cable. Installation of cable TV on a main room costs $ 39.95 and each additional room costs $9.95 to get a line. Satellite TV seemed cheaper on the monthly TV subscriptions. Whilst the most basic and cheapest cable TV company monthly cost is at $39.95 per month, a basic and least expensive satellite TV subscription was $ 19.95 per month.

Satellite TV also won by a huge margin on the number of channels available. The most TV channels on cable TV were 180 while those of satellite TV were 350. Both cable and satellite TV channels offered optional HDTV services at additional costs to the normal service.

TV Quality

Another big plus for satellite TV that I noticed was the fact that they offered an all digital and sound transmission. Digital satellite TV means that the reception, picture and sound quality are of high standard as compared to cable TVs analog system of transmission. Analog transmission is through the air and is subject to much interference.

On average cable TV seems to have increased their subscription fees by 8% over the last one year while monthly subscription for satellite TV has dropped with more promise on further drop. The reliability of cable TV also seems to be lower than that of satellite TV. While satellite TV failures were less than 1% those for cable TV average 2-4% in an average viewing month.

After sales service

Satellite TV has been ranked by several review websites as the top ranking as opposed to cable TV. Winning the honors are cable TV and dish network in customer satisfaction for the last several years back to back.

After my thorough review of the TV channels it was clear that satellite TV was winning by a clear margin. What was also the most important finding is that I could get TV on a pc through satellite TV. Through the internet, the TV companies had started an internet based service that only required you to buy a satellite TV on pc software.

TV on a PC Service

I decided to try the pc TV software first and Boy was I glad. In 2 minutes flat I was watching sports channels including Football, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey, Soccer, and ESPN. Whats more these guys had over 3000 TV channels including international TV stations from many countries like Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bolivia, Bosnia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Czech Rep, Denmark, Dominic. Rep, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Iran Luxemburg, Macedonia, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Mongolia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russian Fed, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, Ukraine, USA, Vatican City, Venezuela, Vietnam among many others.

I guess it should be easier for you to make your choice on the TV to get installed to your home or pc.
