Win At Foosball - Without Cheating With Our Top Tips!

Foosball matters. It can win you respect or condemn you to derision. It is played in bars in front of friends and onlookers. Dummy a shot with the left-hand striker only to power in a clinical finish with the right-hand man to emerge victorious and you are a hero to your friends and look good to the ladies. Score an own goal that dribbles at a snail's pace from your midfield past a flailing goalkeeper and you are a loser, mocked by men and pitied by women.

As a man who has frantically swapped hands and titled tables to stop the back pass ending up beating my own goalie, I want to spare others the ignominy. So here are the tips Ive acquired from my friends who can whack in a 9-0 drubbing at will and from the BFA (British Foosball Association) who ought to know a thing or two about how to play the game.

Wrist-flick
oSpinning the bar is inaccurate and the shots are straight and predicable, it results in fewer rebound opportunities, is often banned, and makes you look like a complete novice. Use the wrist-flick instead. Use your stronger hand, and hold on to the handle throughout the shot. Forget about your arm and hand and focus on forcing your wrist hard down past the right-hand side of the handle. Your wrist will stop abruptly because of your grip on the handle, but the ball will travel fast and true and you will look like you know what youre doing.

Stagger players
oGet your defender in the way of the direct shot, but put your goalie a balls width to the side to substantially increase your coverage of the goalmouth. In open play, defend the near post

Oscillate your defenders
oDont let a gap open up for any substantial amount of time. Good players will pass the ball along the line of attackers and penetrate a gap. Move the bars in and out in an unpredictable manner so that they cant get a clear shot

Tilt your players
oTilt the attack and defence bars slightly forward (heads towards opponents goal) so that when you block you keep possession. Tilt midfield and goalie the other way to get attacking rebounds and more saves respectively

Use defenders against midfield and defender shots
oWhen your opponent shoots from range there arent many angles from which he can do so. Position your midfielders and attackers to try to block more angles, then get your defenders in the gaps. They will have to be very good to beat a well-organised defense.

Shoot with your strikers
oStatistically, very few shots from the midfield will score against a good player. If you can see an opportunity, dont be afraid to pass the ball from the 5 on the midfield bar to your 3-man strikeforce. You then have a much better chance of scoring

Control before you shoot
oAn instant snap-shot may be required, but usually try to get the ball under control in attack before your shot. It gives you a better chance to deceive defenders and strike the ball cleanly

Sideways movement
oWhen the ball is under control in attack, flick it between the 3 players. The quicker you can do this the better; you will find yourself with a gap in which to shoot. Push the ball with the side of one man to another to hit a first-time shot at the goal

Astrology's Leo Lucky Days - Horoscope Modifiers From Numerology

People born in the date range of July 23rd through August 21st, have the Astrology sun sign of Leo the Lion. As a Leo, you probably know your basic Horoscope, but did you know there are six days every month that are lucky for you, just because of your sun sign? Just what are Leo's lucky days?

Your Birth Date

In Numerology, birth dates are always lucky days for you. So, you should add your birth date as a lucky day. For example, actor Ben Affleck was born on August 15th, 1972, so he should add August 15th to the list of August lucky days below.

Universal Days

Days on which the Universal day number equals your Life Path number are lucky for you. The universe supports your actions on these days. Your Life Path number is calculated by adding all the digits of your birth date by fadic addition. Ben Affleck's Life Path number is a six as shown below:

Life Path = (08 + 15 + 1972) = (1995) = (1 + 9 + 9 + 5) = (24) = (6).

As an example, July 17th, 2007 is a lucky day for Ben Affleck because the Universal Day number is also a six, matching his Life Path number.

Universal Day (07/17/2007) = (7 + 17 + 2007) = (2031) = (2 + 3 + 1) = (6).

Note: you can pre-calculate the year and month sum, (7 + 2007) = (7), and then just add this value to the day number, and sum the result. (7 + 17) = (24) = (6).

Leo Lucky Calendar Dates

Six days of every month are specifically lucky for Leos. They are as follows:

For January: 1st, 4th, 13th, 16th, 18th, and the 27th.

For February: 1st, 15th, 20th, 24th, 25th, and the 29th.

Send Donation Thank-You Letters, Cards and Notes Quickly in Direct Mail Fundraising

The most important thing about your donation thank-you letters is not what you say or how you say it but how quickly you say it.

According to Stephen Hitchcock in Open Immediately!, for many donors, a brief thank-you note pre-printed with just the amount and date of the gift can be more effective than long-winded thank-you letters that arrive long after the donor mailed you a gift.

Your gift acknowledgement notes and cards need to leave your office within 48 hours of receiving a donors gift. Never take longer than a week. You need to be prompt with your gratitude for a number of reasons.

1. Being prompt is being polite. We all like dealing with people who are thankful

2. Your donors need to be reminded that they made the right decision in sending you a gift. They have many choices about where they can send their charitable donations. You need to remind them that their donation to your organization was the right choice. The longer you take to send that message, the less likely donors are to feel a kinship with your mission (and give again).

3. One of the prime reasons that donors lapse (stop giving) is that they feel unappreciated. The easiest way to show your appreciation is to thank your donors quickly, appropriately and enthusiastically.

A word about thanking major donors
Donors who send you particularly large gifts in the mail deserve a phone call or a personal visit. Which usually causes a problem with promptness. These donors are usually flagged, taken out of the daily receipting and thank-you process, and placed in a to-do pile for later follow up by the executive director, director of advancement or the person who signed the fundraising letter that prompted the gift.

And thats where the problem arises. Donors who are taken out of the regular thank-you system tend to be thanked in person, eventually, but much later than is ideal. I recommend that you follow the advice of Stanley Weinstein. In his book, Complete Guide to Fundraising Management, Stanley recommends including major donors in your usual gift acknowledgement process. Mail them the same thank-you letter, note or card that you send to everyone else. That way they are thanked promptly. Then follow up with a more personal thank you note (perhaps hand-written), a phone call or a personal visit.
